Abstract

Case management demands social workers engage other service providers to meet the needs of their clients. Three principal bases of power—organizational affiliation, professional knowledge and skills, and personal traits—are identified. A review of social workers' willingness to wield power reveals relative powerlessness, but for the use of moral suasion. Remedies are suggested so that social workers would better serve the clients.
