Abstract

This article is a summary of studies made to forecast the growth of Greater São Paulo, Brazil, as part of a long-range plan for balanced use of water resources in the river basin where the city is located. The study's basic purpose was to estimate urban expansion and population distribution in the region up to the year 2000, to define future water demand for industrial and residential consumption, sewage dilution, location of reservoirs, and trunk pipes, etc. A similar study was made for industrial growth and location.
