The nucleus and mitochondria of eukaryote cells and the nucleoid of prokaryote cells contain remarkable enzymes, called DNA polymerases, which ensure the faithful duplication of genetic material. These enzymatic machines incorporate the building blocks of DNA, deoxyribonucleotide triphosphates (dNTPs), into growing polynucleotide chains.
