Abstract
In terms of the importance of mitigating the impacts of hydropower plants (HPP) that are intended to be constructed in Egypt, this research was initiated with the objective of setting out information. This information relates the contribution of the HPP towards the adaptation and sustainability options. Primarily, the literature was reviewed in the field of environmental impact of HPP. An area was chosen as a case study. This area is the HPP of Assuit New Barrage (ANB). Data was assembled. Based on the reviewed literature and assembled data, the socio-economic and environmental impact of the power plant was assessed. It was concluded that the HPP of ANB has promising positive aspects in relation to climate change mitigation and adaptation and sustainable development.
