Abstract

Cyclic simple shear tests were conducted on specimens of reconstituted clean sand and undisturbed high-plasticity clay. The presentation is focused on the secant shear modulus and damping ratio in the small strain range. The variation of these parameters with confining pressure, cyclic shear strain amplitude, stress history and frequency of cyclic loading is investigated. Experimental data are presented in the format that can be utilized for seismic response analyses.
