Abstract

ABSTRACT Slopes design is part of surface mine planning Methods of slopes design are described in three parts. Overall slope angles are derived from geological, structural geomechanical, and water table data during the feasibility stage Variations of the safety factor to changes in slope angle are described in both cases of jointed rock mass and continuous rock mass Influences of slope curvature and underground workings upon stability are also mentioned Selection of basic slope types (geometry of benches) is then discussed. The problem of haul road insertion in the pit walls while saving slopes stability is tackled and a method proposed.
