Abstract
Due to the social (ethical and cultural) reasons in recent years in Poland a ritual slaughter of animals for religious purposes has caused many emotions and controversies. As a consequence, in 2013-2014 a legal ban on the use of this form of killing animals was implemented. In the paper an attempt to assess the scale of ritual slaughter of animals was made. Moreover, the premises of pros and cons of this form of slaughters were indicated. In Poland, it is carried out on an industrial scale, and meat obtained in this way is mainly for export, since the domestic demand is relatively small due to the small percentage of national minorities, i.e. Muslims and Jews.
