Abstract

Crystal platelets of BiCaSrCuO superconducting and semiconducting phases up to 1 cm 2 have been grown from KC1 solutions by slow cooling in air. The temperature range of cooling was found to control phase formation, and starting compositions that have a large percentage of the Bi 2Ca 2Sr 2Cu 3O x phase were found to be optimal for growing platelets of the Bi 2CaSr 2Cu 3O x superconducting phase.
