Abstract

A new method of simultaneous low level counting of 3H and 14C is described. The method involves the use of doubly-labelled methane, i.e. a CH 4 molecule is labelled both with C and H from the sample to be measured. A low background proportional counter filled with doubly-labelled methane and three-channel electronics is used for 3H and 14C radioactivity measurements. The method is applied to a simultaneous concentration measurement of 3H and 14C in the atmosphere.
