We, as editors, have also learned from the process and now review modules with the authenticity of the scenario foremost in our minds. We have found that the barriers to patient involvement are issues of consent and confidentiality and have overcome these by explaining to patients exactly what they will be doing and who will be reading the module. We also offer patients who write commentaries and modules anonymity, but many of them are happy to waive this.
