Abstract

The application of multidimensional digital filtering theory to the simulation of continuous systems with distributed parameters has been treated in various recent contributions. Here, two different concepts will be compared, using a lossy transmission line of finite extent as an example. One approach is based on multidimensional wave digital filters, the other on the derivation of a simulating structure by functional transformations for each independent variable. The comparison includes a review of the underlying theoretical concepts as well as the presentation of the design process for the digital system and simulation results for various examples.
