Abstract
A simulation procedure of noise figure (NF) of nonlinear amplifiers is developed. NF is defined in terms of the effective signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the output of a nonlinear amplifier. The effective output SNR when the input consists of a communication signal plus Gaussian noise is evaluated through the identification of the effective output noise and nonlinear distortion power using the orthogonalization of the nonlinear model. The approach is useful for the assessment of noise performance of low-noise amplifiers in wireless systems. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE 2009.
