Plain Language SummaryIn severe cases of infectious endophthalmitis, vitrectomy with or without silicone oil (SO) tamponade may be necessary. In in vitro models mimicking intraocular tamponade, SO demonstrated an initial growth-inhibitory effect, temporarily reducing colony sizes during early incubation periods, particularly against specific aerobic bacterial strains, including antibiotic-resistant variants. However, due to these findings, the use of SO tamponade in early vitrectomy for infectious endophthalmitis should be approached cautiously until further in vivo studies provide definitive evidence.
