Abstract
Objectives: Doppler echocardiography measures intravalvular flow velocity to calculate transvalvular pressure loss according to the Bernoulli-equation. But due to pressure recovery valve-gradients may be overestimated significantly. We quantified overestimation of transvalvular pressure-gradients in small sized (19–23mm) aortic bileaflet mechanical valves (On-X®).
