Abstract

AbstractIn this paper an array of four shorting post loaded square microstrip antennas (SMSA) in a cross fashion yielding conical as well as broadside radiation pattern is presented. Each element of the array is loaded with two shorting posts. The elements when fed with equal amplitude and phase yield a conical beam. A linearly polarized (LP) broadside pattern is obtained when two elements of the array, along either of the axis is fed with equal amplitude but a phase difference of 180° while a circularly polarized (CP) broadside pattern is obtained when all the elements of the array are fed with a phase difference of 0° −90° −180° −270°. Experimental and simulated results are presented and are in agreement. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
