Abstract

This paper presents the results of direct Monte Carlo simulation of transverse hypersonic flow of gas mixtures around a cylinder and a plate. The main objective of the current analysis was the deceleration of heavy atoms in the shock layer in front of the cylinder and the plate. Data are presented for the structure of the disturbed flow, density, velocity, temperature distribution, and energy distribution function of the heavy atoms colliding with the body. Parametric analysis is provided for a wide range of Knudsen numbers, surface temperatures, adsorption probabilities, and gas mixture compositions.
