Abstract

A method of calculating shielding for radioactive bremsstrahlung sources with Sr 90 + Y 90 as β-emitters and lead targets has been described. Basing on theoretical assumptions, the bremsstrahlung yield of β-particles and the photon spectrum as well as the dose rates for various lead shield thicknesses have been calculated. A good agreement with the experiment has been obtained both in the shape of the spectrum and the dose rates for various lead thicknesses. A procedure for shield thickness choice in a case of a Sr 90 + Y 90/Pb source has been given.
