Abstract

The main part of the book is in the form of an alphabetical gazetteer. Besides the principal subject, each entry also includes smaller villages and places of interest within the area. Many extra entries have been added to ensure that this edition takes account of the changing concerns and ways of life in Ireland in the late 20th century. These include, in particular, the emergence of new styles of ecclesiastical architecture and the mushrooming of regional museums. Detailed maps enable the traveller to pinpoint the sites exactly and there is an historical introduction. Peter Harbison's previous books include Guide to the National Monuments of Ireland.
