Abstract
A theoretical elastic analysis is given of a radial nozzle in a pad reinforced spherical vessel subjected to a shear force applied at the nozzle/sphere intersection. Curves of stress concentration factors based on the maximum principal stress and the maximum shear stress are given for a wide range of geometrical parameters. The limitations of the analysis due to the use of thin shell theory are discussed.
