Abstract

Lithium-alloyed aluminum alloys possess substantial advantages over other aluminum-base alloys and can be a promising material for spacecraft engineering in the next century. At the present time the use of these alloys is limited by certain manufacturing difficulties. For example, the shear bands that appear in rolling of Al−Li sheets exert a negative effect on the properties of the alloys. In the present work shear bands are studied in Al−Li alloy 1460.
