Abstract

In this paper, we establish the sharp L 1 continuous dependence of entropy solutions of bounded variation for genuinely nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. The sharp estimate contains quadratic and cubic dissipation terms which are precisely identified. For general systems, the results hold for solutions with small total variation. For a typical model arising in continuum physics, we can handle solutions with large total variation.
