Abstract

Communication, whether verbal or written, is an essential tool in our society. Yet we find students in mathematics classes resisting efforts aimed at improving their skills in this area. They consider the usual writing assignments boring. As requirements in the mathematics curriculum shifted to call for better communication abilities from students, many teachers discovered that the mathematics classroom is an ideal setting for the development of a more precise use of language that leads to better communication.
