Abstract

A shape optimization method has been developed in order to obtain advanced designs of induction machines within practical computational time. In the proposed method, the frequency- and time-domain adaptive finite element methods (FEMs) are combined. The frequency domain FEM is used to obtain initial potentials for the acceleration of the time-domain FEM, which estimates the characteristics of the machines. The experimental verification is carried out in order confirm the validity of the analysis. An advanced design of a cage induction motor is obtained by using the proposed method.
