Abstract
When screw-worm flies, Cochliomyia hominivorax (Coquerel), were treated orally with sugar syrup containing 1-[bis(1-aziridinyl) phosphinyl]-3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) urea, egg hatchability decreased progressively as the length of time the males fed on 5% chemosterilant increased from 1 to 24 hr; at 20 hr, sterility was theoretically complete and equal to that obtained with the 24-hr feeding Also, egg hatchability increased progressively as the concentration of sugar syrup used as the vehicle for 1% chemosterilant fed to both sexes decreased from saturation to 0.1-saturation. When the length of time males fed on 1% chemosterilant was increased from 1 to 24 hr, egg hatchability decreased more rapidly if saturated sugar syrup was used as the vehicle than if 0.1-saturated sugar syrup was used.
