Abstract
The characteristics of kidney donors have been increasingly scrutinised, and substantially affect outcomes of long-term kidney transplants.1–4 Most studies have focused on the effect of donor's age, hypertension, graft histology at procurement, degree of kidney function before procurement, cause of death, and sex. Generally, advanced age, long duration of hypertension, chronic arterial and interstitial damage, diminished kidney function at admission, cerebrovascular accident as the cause of death, and female sex have been associated with poor short-term and long-term graft function.
