Abstract
ABSTRACT This article provides an insider’s account of the legislative history of the landmark Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth). It recounts some of the unanticipated and publicly hidden barriers that can arise when new social policy moves into a legislated form, bringing novel concepts not previously recognised within a formal legal structure. The article reflects on the progress of Australia’s sex discrimination legislation, sometimes achieved against trenchant opposition.
