Abstract

The SES (seismic electric signals) by which the Van group predicted the earthquakes in Greece with M ⩾ 5.5 during the period 1977–1979 are correlated with the behaviour of EEP (earth electric potential) observed in Observatory “Vitosha” (Vts) during the same periods. Twelve cases of strong earthquakes are presented in eight of them the SES emissions occurred during periods when anomalies in the Earth's electric potential were observed in Vts. The idea that the Earth's electric effects are real earthquake precursors is confirmed, as well as the fact that the anomalies in EEP and SES are caused by the same regional processes preparing the earthquakes.
