Abstract

SUMMARY The possibility of hyperthyroidism contributing to the clinical manifestations of hypomagnesaemia was investigated. The concentrations of protein bound iodine (PBI) in the serum of normal and hypomagnesaemic cows were determined during the period October to April. No increase in the concentration of PBI was found even in the sera taken from clinical cases. The average concentration of PBI in the serum of cows was 3·4 µg./ 100 ml. and the overall range 1·4 µg. to 6·8 µg./ 100 ml.
