Abstract

In order to guarantee the quality of petroleum products in serial flow in a pipeline, the beginning and the end of contamination have to be detected by accurate and reliable serial interface detector. Interface detectors are available in two categories: “the measuring type” and “the marker type”. This report presents an outline of the both type detectors, and the results of laboratory tests with regard to detecting interface serially by density, fluorescence, gammaray absorption and dielectric constant. It has been confirmed that the certain method to differentiate between all two products is to measure two or more characteristics. The most polular and stable measuring instrument is a vibrating type gravity meter. However it is not satisfactory to indicate the beginning and the end of contamination. For example kerosene is not allowable to mix with even a very small quantity of gasoline. In this case it is very effective to measure fluorescence of product by the characteristic exciting wave length. According to choose the wave length, it is possible to detect interface of the some kinds of products which were producted by different refineries.
