Abstract

Odor sense is one of the essential senses indispensable for humans in daily life. There is a wide variety of odor samples available to be obtained. However, most odor samples include preservatives called fixatives that can cause inconsistency in odorant analysis especially using mass spectrometry. We gathered 99 commercially available perfumes and extracted the pure perfume mass spectra without the interference of fixatives by utilizing Independent Component Analysis (ICA). The study shows that the extracted pure perfume successfully removes the influence of fixatives within the perfumes.
