Abstract

The separation of gas mixture in an axially symmetric supersonic jet is investigated. The supersonic jet is separated into the peripheral stream and the core stream by a skimmer and the total diffusion flux of the lighter component into the peripheral stream is obtained. The experimental results are presented for the binary gas mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen. An approximate equation is proposed which gives the diffusion flux as a function of cut and Mach number. The experimental results were in fairly good agreement with the results of calculation by the proposed equation.
