Abstract

The state-of-the-art in sensor R&D in the former Soviet Union is considered. It is shown that the sensor research program is under progress now in many new independent states and in various research organizations. Some examples of sensor R&D in Universities, Institutes of the Academy of Sciences and Applied Research Institutes are given. The main attention is focused on the development of chemical sensors. It will be shown that almost all types of physical and chemical sensors are under investigation now and there are many achievements and new developments with a small number of sensors commercially available.
