Abstract
Statistical tests which are sensitive to the full distribution of Rayleigh powers for a set of observations of a TeV gamma-ray source are considered and compared with the standard approach of considering only the highest powers. For sources with duty factors of more than about 2%, the global tests can be more effective. Tests for consistency between the apparent strength of a periodic signal with measured dc excess are reviewed.
