Abstract

A model simulating conditions in an aquaculture pond has been developed. Some details of the model are presented as well as a preliminary sensitivity analysis. The effects of phytoplankton growth and respiration rates, zooplankton growth and respiration rates, particulate organic matter decomposition rate, and dissolved organic matter decomposition rate, on the model were examined. Seasonal differences were observed between the model responses to the rate variations. Results indicate that the two most important processes governing conditions in the pond are phytoplankton dynamics and the dynamics of decomposition of organic matter.
