Abstract
The article focuses on the analysis of the role and importance of the figure of an old man in the allegorical images of Judge (Iudex), Usury (Foeneratio) and Alchemy (Alchimia) proposed by the Jesuit lecturer, playwright, and author of theatrical performances and drama theatre theorist, Franz Lang in his very important (it marked an high point of theatrical outpoot) handbook of acting De actione scenica published in Munich in 1727.

The knowledge of the ancient tradition and its reception was extremely important for the proper interpretation of those allegorical creations both by viewers at the time, and the creators of the performances using the minimalist, non-graphic Lang’s descriptions

Atencję wobec ludzi zaawansowanych wiekiem odzwierciedlały oraz promowały w teatrze szkolnym (nie tylko jezuitów, ale także pijarów i teatynów) postacie pozytywnych, wzorcotwórczych młodzieńców, które konstruowane były z wykorzystaniem toposu puer-senex. Langa wykorzystującym postać starca czy starej kobiety, to należy zauważyć, że ta pierwsza zdaje się stwarzać nieco szersze możliwości kreowania takich obrazów. Że celem autora De actione scenica nie było przedstawienie adeptowi sztuki teatralnej gotowego, kompletnego zestawu użytecznych w szkolnych przedstawieniach symbolicznych wizerunków. Starość męska służyć może natomiast do budowania symbolicznych wizerunków pojęć czy zjawisk tak pozytywnych, jak i (wprawdzie Lang czyni to tylko raz) negatywnych. Tak należy odczytywać obrazy Sędziego (Iudex), Rozwagi (Consilium) oraz jedną z możliwości ukazania na scenie Filozofii (Philosophia). Przyjrzyjmy się zatem bliżej tym nielicznym propozycjom symbolicznym przedstawionym przez Langa w De actione scenica, w których wykorzystał figurę starca. W analizie tych obrazów uwzględnić należy: 1) treści moralno-wychowawcze, jakie kryją się w tych wyobrażeniach; 2) tzw. erudycję, czyli
