Abstract

A feasible self-synchronization optical sampling technique is proposed for a high-speed asynchronous optical communication network (e.g. a computer network) which only uses a central mode-locked laser to distribute optical clock signals. It can achieve the correct phase synchronization between an asynchronous electronic data packet and ultrashort optical clock pulses at each electro-optic modulator. The use of the proposed optical sampling scheme can significantly reduce the network cost.
