Abstract
This paper investigates a self-tuning steam turbine control scheme designed to improve the quality of control of power system frequency. The recursive least-squares estimation algorithm and minimum-variance control technique are implemented to synthesize the turbogenerator speed control loop. Computer simulations of a 5-unit power system show that employing this type of control is effective in curbing excessive over- and under-frequency deviations and alleviating generator and load sheddings for major disturbances.
