Abstract

Summary Following a Department of Health (DoH) evaluation of easy chairs for people with rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis of the hip joints and low back pain, salient design characteristics were highlighted as contributing to the comfort experienced in an easy chair by all disability categories. This article presents the overall findings of the DoH study in terms of guide lines which will assist therapists in selecting the most comfortable and supportive chairs for their patients.
