Abstract
The aim of this paper is to reconstruct Fichte's concept of freedom of the will in terms of a genetic compatibilism. Historically, the focus is on the question of how Fichte departs from Kant's concept of transcendental freedom. System- atically, Fichte's concept of self-consciousness is related to his concept of drive and reflection, and it is analyzed in terms of a compatibilist account of freedom.
