Abstract

The infra-red spectrum of SeF6 was studied using matrix isolation spectroscopy, and isotope substitution techniques. The I.R. band contours of v 3(F 1u ) and v 4(F 1u ) could be well analysed by measuring the spectrum of isotopically pure 80SeF6 at low temperature. For both vibrations, isotope shifts due to the different selenium isotopes were obtained in both Ar and N2 matrices. The F 1u force constants have been calculated using isotope shifts and Coriolis coupling constants as additional data.
