Abstract

SUMMARY Aerial seeding has been used to establish protection forests in a few of the industrialized countries in remote regions and on rough terrain. However, aerial technology is liable to be less appropriate to the conditions of developing countries, where manual labour is abundant but aircraft, aviation skills and petroleum-based fuels are likely to be in short supply. Thus research to accommodate airplanes and helicopters may be misguided. Alternative research might consider methods to strengthen conventional ground techniques by improving logistical organization and labour supervision.
