Abstract

Photosystem II (PSII) is an integral membrane protein complex that uses light energy to split water producing free molecular oxygen plus protons and electrons, which feed the photosynthetic electron transport chain in plant thylakoids. The reaction centre (RC) of this protein complex is where the primary photosynthetic redox events occur and consists of 5 different polypeptides: D1 protein, D2 protein, cytochrome b559 (subunits a and β) and PsbI protein.
