Abstract

A separate, low-volume spatially variable chemical application system was installedand field-tested on a 3-span lateral-move irrigation system. The chemical application systemuses commercially available sprinkler components and ON/OFF pulsing to achieve variable rateapplication along the irrigation system lateral. Water application uniformity and chemicaldelivery accuracy of the system were evaluated. The coefficient of uniformity for waterapplication ranged from 87 to 92% for relative application rates of 33 to 100%. Mean waterapplication depths were within 10% of the target depths. Mean chemical application mass waswithin 4% of the target amounts when the chemical application system was operatedconcurrently with conventional uniform water application. The chemical application systemdesign and operational data are presented.
