Abstract

The second post-Newtonian (2pN) motion of binary systems consisting of two nonrotating compact objects (e.g. neutron stars) is explicitly given in the form of a generalized quasi-Keplerian parametrization. All parameters are expressed as functions of energy and angular momentum. The test-mass limit is discussed. The limit of validity of the first and second post-Newtonian approximation for a test mass in Schwarzschild spacetime is investigated.
