Abstract

In this study the occurrence of mycorrhiza in species growing in a Melic-Beech Forest was checked and the annual variation in pattern of VAM infection in Allium ursinum L., Fraxinus excelsior L. and Melica uniflora Retz. was investigated. The results indicate that about 80% of the species are VAM. Three of these display seasonal patterns in the frequency and intensity of infection with maximum values occurring in winter. The frequency of infection was 90, 95 and 20% for A. ursinum, F. excelsior and M. uniflora respectively. These values decreased in summer to about 60% of the winter value. The results are discussed in relation to the climate and life cycle of the species
