Abstract

Inelastic neutron scattering experiments were performed on a single crystal of La 1.9Sr 0.1CuO 4 to search for electron-phonon coupling induced line broadenings. Further measurements were made on undoped La 2CuO 4 as a reference to isolate the electron-phonon coupling contribution to the experimental linewidth. The most pronounced line broadening was found for a Z-point phonon involving apical oxygen displacements along c, in agreement with theory.
