Abstract

Electrical Feedthroughs In article number 2201887, Linda Rudmann, Sebastian D. Huber, and Thomas Stieglitz demonstrate that active implantable medical devices and, in particular, their hermetic packages, which house the electronics and other sensitive parts, rely on reliable hermetic electrical feedthroughs. As the size of the hermetic housing decreases, as required for the optical probe design, the requirements for the package increase. A proof-of-concept study presents a novel diffusion-based process that is non-destructive to the bulk hermetic material.
