Abstract

Aim of this study is to obtain an accurate scintigraphic prediction of the post surgical pulmonary function in patients with lung neoplasm undergoing a lobectomy. 23 patients underwent a perfusion lung scan and the postlobectomy function was predicted by a formula taking into account the preoperative values of VC and FEV1, the number of functional segments of the lobe to be resected and a lobar perfusion score. The results were compared with the values of VC and FEV1 obtained 1 month postlobectomy. The correlations obtained were satisfactory for both VC and FEV1 (p < 0.001). The slight overestimation of the scintigraphic prediction should stimulate a further improvement of the method.
