Abstract

The Raman and infrared spectra of cyclopentasilane, Si 5H 10 (and Si 5D 10), the first cyclic silicon hydrogen compound, have been measured and assigned. Analogous to cyclopentane, cyclopentasilane is not planar and undergoes rapid pseudorotation. A complete normal coordinate analysis has been performed using isotopic data. The SiSi stretching force constant is calculated to be 1.68 N/cm.
