Abstract

Case 1 is a 17-year-old female patient with an asymptomatic dome-shaped nodule of normal coloration and a smooth surface located in the upper lip mucosa, with 3 years’ duration. Macroscopic examination revealed a bilobulated, well-delimited whitish fibrous fragment measuring 1.5 cm. Case 2 is a 32-year-old female patient referred for evaluation of facial asymmetry of the mental region of 8 months’ duration. Intraoral examination revealed a slow-growing, painful diffuse swelling in the buccal vestibule. Radiographic examination was unremarkable. Macroscopic examination revealed a 2.5-cm round fibrous tissue with a whitish cut surface containing a central round brownish coloration. Both patients were submitted to excisional biopsy. Microscopically, a well-defined proliferation of neoplastic Schwann cells with nuclear palisading and less cellular areas were observed in a vascular stroma with dilated blood vessels. We contribute with 2 well-documented and illustrative cases of schwannoma located in uncommon sites of the oral and maxillofacial region.
